First Generation Ranchers

Tate & Calli

Tate and I met at the one and only, South Dakota State Fair, in 2014. What a shocker, we met in the Angus stalls. Angus cattle have literally been a part of our story since day one.

We both love wide open spaces, SDSU football, and think brisket is the best protein to serve for holidays or big gatherings!

Jack is our oldest son. He has a heart of gold, and doesn’t miss a beat when it comes to doing this outside with us. Currently, his favorite part of ranching is “making hay bales.”

TommY

Tommy keeps us on our toes! He is Jack’s shadow, our entertainment, and has no fear. He knows chores are to be done in a particular order and he loves to be in charge of filling the grain buckets. I think we have a future cattle feeder on our hands.

Tate and Calli were engaged December 4th, 2015 in Vail, Colorado and when they flew home- their first stop was at the FSA office to sign the loan paperwork to purchase their acreage. Calli jokes that TW proposed for the sake of gaining a co-signer, but really- they were full speed ahead of creating the future they both dreamed of!

Tate and Calli are considered first-generation ranchers due to purchasing the acreage they call home, and starting TW Angus. They feel fortunate to have had so many opportunities to purchase genetics from proven ranches like Hugh Ingalls Centennial Angus, LaGrand Angus, Forgey Ranch, Graesser Bros, Krebs Ranch and more to name a few. Now, a majority of the cattle that are what they consider the foundation females are the females Tate and Calli raised on the ranch together. Tate and Calli exhibit cattle at the Black Hills Stock Show, and the North Star Classic as a way to showcase their genetics, and meet others within the Angus breed.

TW Angus began selling bulls via private treaty, but in 2022 they took the leap of faith and held their first online bull sale. This sale was a timed event held on DV Auction. The bulls were available for viewing prior to the sale, as well as over the course of the sale. This served as a great platform and we hope to continue using this platform moving forward! (Our bull sale is held the first weekend of March.)

In addition to developing bulls, we enjoy feeding steers and offering beef shares to our customers. We were seeing an increase in demand for smaller bundles of beef so in 2021 we launched our direct-to-consumer beef business. We make deliveries on a monthly basis to the Brookings and Sioux Falls areas, as well as the Mitchell area whenever customers need to restock. In 2022, we were able to provide beef to over 70 families! We are beyond thankful for everyone’s support.
